The location of your Inspire system components is one of the most important factors in ensuring reliable operation.
WiFi Signal (Receiver)
The Receiver connects to your home's WiFi network, so it must be installed where there is a strong and stable WiFi signal.
A simple way to check this is to use your mobile phone. Stand where the Receiver will be installed and check your phone's WiFi signal strength (hold this in the location for a minute to ensure it updates). While not identical, it provides a good indication of the available signal.
If the WiFi signal is weak, consider the following:
Position your WiFi router away from window sills, the floor, or large metal objects.
Reposition the router if possible to improve overall coverage.
Install a WiFi Range Extender or WiFi Mesh System to improve wireless coverage throughout your property.
Radio Signal (Thermostat & Optional Smart Sensors)
If your Thermostat is connected wirelessly, it and any optional Smart Sensors communicate with the Receiver using a low-power radio signal (RF) — not WiFi.
Radio signals travel largely in straight lines and become weaker with both distance and the number of obstacles they pass through. Walls, floors, metal objects and appliances can all reduce signal strength.
Every property is different, so this cannot be guaranteed, but as a general guide the Thermostat and Smart Sensors should communicate reliably through approximately:
Up to two internal stud walls, or
Up to two single-skin brick walls.
For the best performance:
Keep all components at least 1 metre away from large metal objects such as boilers, hot water cylinders, consumer units and large appliances. Avoid kitchen appliances such as Cookers, Microwaves, Fridges, Washing Machines etc.
Avoid installing components directly behind or inside metal cupboards or cabinets.
Minimise the number of walls and floors between devices wherever possible.
If the RF signal is still poor after optimising the installation locations, an Ignite Signal Booster can be added to extend the communication range.
