I've bought a second-hand thermostat (eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or from a friend)

Second-hand Inspire Home Automation thermostats can usually be reused, but they must first be released from the previous owner's account.

Inspire thermostats are designed to be lockable. Once registered, a thermostat is securely linked to the account holder.

If you purchase a second hand thermostat, the existing owner must remove the Thermostat from their account before you can register and control it through your own account. (See Selling a property with an Inspire thermostat installed below)

Before purchasing a second-hand thermostat

If you are purchasing an Inspire thermostat through eBay, Vinted or another third party, please confirm that with the seller that Thermostat is not connected to an account.

Each thermostat has a unique identification number. However, this number is not displayed on the thermostat or its packaging; it is linked to the original purchaser’s order within our system.

If the original owner cannot transfer the thermostat, we may be able to assist with registering it to your account. This is a chargeable service, with fees starting from £49.99, depending on the work required.

To complete this service, you must be present at the property and available to speak with one of our Technical Advisors by telephone. The thermostat must also be powered on and connected to the internet so that we can carry out the necessary checks and assist with its registration.

The following information would also be helpful to help locate the units.

  • The time and date that you connected the unit to the Internet.

  • The original invoice or order number.

  • The email address associated with the account to which the thermostat is currently registered.

  • The serial numbers from the back of the Receiver / Thermostat / Sensor.

  • The serial number on the box.

Selling a property with an Inspire thermostat installed

If you are selling a property with an Inspire thermostat remaining in place, please sign in to your Inspire account and:

  • Go to Settings -> Unit -> Transfer / Remove / Sell Unit. and follow the steps.

Completing this process will allow the new owner to register and use the thermostat without unnecessary delays or additional charges.
